The Flinders Hotel is the oldest surviving Gay Pub in Sydney turning 29 on 7th July 2009, that many, many people have fond many memories of, both coherent and incoherent! The 80’s & 90’s saw many great drag performers/performances, DJ’s and packed nights. The laneway recovery parties paired with The Beresford Hotel are in fact legendary. The ‘Gay Stamp’ was definitely set in stone here during that period.
Every year, the Mardi Gras parade bounces pass with more glitter and glam than Priscilla the Queen of the Desert. This year, the party queen – Madam Flinders – hosted the biggest party with a live web broadcast booming across Flinders Street with BeatFM.
Today, The Flinders Hotel is still a gay owned and operated bar. Owned by Sue Cameron with Chris Milne as the General Manager steering the ship. The party queen – Flinders Hotel – has been renovated with a touch of class to bring back glamour and sophistication with a breath of fresh air to Oxford Street. Just off the famous strip, The Flinders Hotel is just a stepping-stone away from the weekend troublemakers. You can still shake your booty on the dance floor with the recently upgraded sound system. Or maybe drape yourself across the many luscious lounges. With a hint of burlesque and gorgeous black glass chandeliers, The Flinders Hotel is where you call home. It’s where you feel comfortable. Join us for a drink, a cocktail, maybe even a dance or just for a game of pinball or Pac Man. The party queen is waiting and has a 24 license!
THE FLINDERS HOTEL IS OFFICIALLY THE OLDEST GAY PUB IN SYDNEY
It is home to THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BEARS on Fri & Sunday & hosts a great line up of DJ’s for the girls (& girl friendly boys) on Saturday's.
