Privacy Policy

Safeguarding your privacy as a member of Gaygetter is very important to us. This Policy specifies what information we collect about you and it describes the measures Gaygetter takes to protect the privacy of our members. We handle information about our members in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

  1. In this Policy, which you should read with our terms and conditions, ‘you’ and ‘yours’ means the member of Gaygetter. ‘We’, ‘our’ and ‘us’ means Global Community Networks Ltd, registration number 5940597, of PO Box 54949 London W3 8YW, who is the company that operates Gaygetter. ‘The web site’ means the Gaygetter web site. We are registered with the Information Commissioner and we process information about members in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.   2. We collect data about a member when you register as a member, update your profile, post an entry on the web site, contact us for any other purpose, and if you purchase gold membership.
  3. Personal data about you that we collect includes your name, e-mail address, and the information that you post on your Gaygetter profile. If you purchase gold membership, our payment processor, will collect additional data about you, including your address, that they use for processing your payment only. We will store personal data about you securely. This means that electronically held data will be in encrypted format, password protected, and only accessible to Gaygetter staff that need to have access to it. We will not normally hold personal data on paper. If there is a need to print off personal data about you, it will be stored securely and disposed of as confidential waste as soon as possible.
  4. We may use the personal data we collect about you to:
    1. Process your registration as a member and manage your membership of Gaygetter
    2. Develop, improve and increase the range of services and facilities that we provide to you and all our members
    3. Investigate any breaches of terms and conditions, content policy etc which might include checking what you have posted on the site; and, only in exceptional circumstances such as where we suspect the Gaygetter website is being misused, looking at the content of messages
    4. Send you information about other products or services but only if you have explicitly consented to receiving such information
    5. Notify you of Gaygetter points that you have earned.
  5. We will not pass on your personal details to any other organisation, for marketing or any other purpose, without your consent, except where we are required to do so by law or where we suspect that the Gaygetter web site is being used in connection with illegal activity.
  6. Personal data about you that includes your full name, address or date of birth will not appear on any part of the Gaygetter web site to which members or visitors to the web site have access. Please note that your profile may be seen worldwide and in other countries that do not have European Economic Area data protection requirements in place, so you must not post your address, telephone numbers, or e-mail address in your profile.
  7. We will take all reasonable steps to protect you from receiving unsolicited mail, from being contacted through Gaygetter by other commercial organisations, via any means other than the Gaygetter messaging system, and from the risk of identity theft. If a member attempts to use the Gaygetter web site for sending out unsolicited commercial communications, that is a breach of our terms and conditions. Please tell us if you come across any such potential breaches so that we can act on them.
  8. We will not write to you, send you e-mails, or telephone you, unless you have consented to being contacted in these ways.
  9. We reserve the right to monitor the content of members’ profiles to ensure they comply with our terms and conditions and content policy, and to look at messages if we suspect the Gaygetter web site is being used in connection with any criminal activity.
  10. We use ‘cookies’ on the Gaygetter website. A cookie is a text-only string of information that a website transfers to your computer’s browser so the web site can remember who you are and how you like to use the web site. We use cookies to:
    1. To help us recognise you as a member when you return to our website and to allow us to tailor content or advertisements to match your preferred interests or to avoid showing you the same adverts repeatedly
    2. To remember and tell you information such as who has messaged you, who has viewed your profile etc
    3. To compile anonymous, aggregated statistics that allow us to understand how members use our site and to help us improve the structure of the web site. We cannot identify you personally in this way.   11. When you terminate your membership, or if we terminate it, we will delete all personal data about you within one month.
